Itinerary

Day 1Arrival to Costa Rica.

Hi! Welcome to exotic Costa Rica! You will be arriving to the airport and your car will be waiting for you there (SUV Intermediate 2WD AT). Today you will start a self- drive trip in mountains and the south pacific of Costa Rica.
Today we will be driving to our first hotel in San José. San Jose is the Capital of Costa Rica. A big city that has immersed with other cities because of its quick development.
The rest of the day you can go out to explore San José or find a good place to eat.

Overnight in San Jose.

Day 2Self dive to Orosi

Have a nice breakfast in the hotel. Get prepared for our first adventure, the town of Orosi in Cartago. We will drive through Cartago, a city in Costa Rica, about 25 km (16 mi) east of the capital, San José. It is at an elevation of about 1435 m (4,707 ft) above sea level, at the base
of a miracle from La Negrita. According to folklore in Costa Rica, the statue was found by an indigenous girl in 1635. The Plaza Mayor in Cartago includes the Santiago Apóstol Parish Ruins, about seven blocks west from the basilica. Despite their beauty, they are not real ruins but an unfinished building, which was badly damaged by the 1910 earthquake and then interrupted.

We will continue driving to Orosi. This is a delightful valley covered in green coffee plantations, fields and a beautiful lake. Many hotels in this area have a colonial style with amazing views of the gigantic valley.

Day 3Exploring Orosi Valley.

Good day! Have a savory breakfast at your hotel. Orosi Valley, a deep valley with a humid climate, surrounded by hills and lots of verdant green vegetation. The cultivation of coffee is the principal industry in this area. Orosi has a population of approximately 4,600 and has the oldest Catholic church still in use in Costa Rica. The church, Iglesia de San Jose de Orosi, was built in 1743 during the time the country was still a Colony of Spain.

Day 4Exploring the Orosi Valley

Have a nice breakfast at the hotel. Orosi offers rain forests, volcanoes, hills and valleys lined with rows upon rows of coffee plants and sugar cane. The Orosi region offers some of the richest scenery to be found in Costa Rica. The region is also rich in history and contains a number of monuments commemorating the past, including a colonial capital founded in 1563 and archeological excavations that date back to 1000 B.C.

Day 5Self-drive to Los Santos Area

Have breakfast at the hotel and get ready to depart the Orosi Valley and drive to Los Santos Area, where you will be immersed in exuberant vegetation and pristine habitat where you will get to know the most intimate secrets of the region. Zona de Los Santos, Costa Rica — High in the mountains of southern central Costa Rica is the Zona de los Santos, an agricultural area with unique qualities and whose inhabitants have perfected the art of growing and processing one of the best coffees in the world.

Day 6Exploring Los Santos Area

Have a nature surrounded breakfast at your hotel. This place is unlike any other place in Costa Rica, bucolic mountain villages, a river that runs through the area and surrounded by forested hills that more resemble the alps than the tropics. The air is crisp and fresh, cold at night. These forests harbor the resplendent quetzal bird, perfect place for bird lovers. The quetzal is well known for its colorful plumage and plays and important role in different types of Mesoamerican mythology; was considered divine with the snake god, Quetzalcoatl by the Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican civilizations. Its iridescent green tail feathers, symbols for spring plant growth, were venerated by the ancient Aztecs and Maya, who viewed the quetzal as the “god of the air” and as a symbol of goodness and light. The Maya also viewed the quetzal symbolizing freedom and wealth, due to their view of quetzals dying in captivity and the value of their feathers, respectively.

Day 7Self-drive to Sierpe- Boat to Drake Bay

Have breakfast at the hotel. Prepare yourself to leave early to Sierpe, because we will take a boat shuttle to go to Drake Bay that leaves at 11:30 a.m. You will leave your car in one of the parking lots (price of the parking lot not included). The only way to access Drake Bay is by boat.
Immerse yourself in pure nature! Here, you can experience the untouched nature in a small eco-friendly hotel in the southern pacific coast of Costa Rica. This area is only accessible by boat and it is one of the most remote places in Costa Rica.

Day 8Exploring Drake Bay

Have a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Bahía Drake (Drake Bay) is a small bay on the north side of the Osa Peninsula on the coast of southwestern Costa Rica. This bay is believed to be a port used by Sir Francis Drake in the 16th century and the location of one of the British pirate’s fabled hidden treasures. There are kilometers of natural coastline with rocky crags and sandy coves that extend from Agujitas, where the village of Bahía Drake is located south to the boundary of Corcovado National Park about 20 kilometers to the south. We will have dinner at the hotel.

Day 9Exploring Drake Bay

Have breakfast at the hotel.
Drake Bay adjoins with Corcovado National Park. This amazing ecosystem, with its forests that exemplify the concept of tropical rain forest, with numerous species, very tall trees with lianas and sufficient herbaceous vines. It is said that Corcovado contains the complete tropical insect ecosystem from Mexico to Panama. Containing 13 major ecosystems including lowland rain forest, highland cloud forest, jolillo palm forest, and mangrove swamps, as well as coastal marine and beach habitats. There is a good chance of spotting some of Costa Rica’s shyest and most endangered inhabitants here; Baird’s Tapirs, Jaguars, Scarlet Macaws, Harpy Eagles, Red-backed squirrel monkeys and White-lipped Peccaries. More than 400 species of birds including 16 different hummingbirds and the largest number of scarlet macaws anywhere in Central America.
You will have dinner at the hotel.

Day 10Back to Sierpe. Self-drive to Dominical Beach

Have breakfast at the hotel and prepare yourselves to go in the 7:15 a.m. boat back to Sierpe where the car is parked. We will drive to Dominical Beach. Some beaches are for sunbathing and swimming, and some are for sailing and other watersports. Dominical is for surfing. In fact, it’s world-renowned, drawing surf fans from all over the world to this small village in Costa Rica’s South Puntarenas province. Waves can grow to 10 feet off the shore of Dominical. Don’t try swimming here; there are rip tides and strong swells that are not only difficult to manage but dangerous as well. If you don’t surf, don’t worry, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the water.

Day 11Exploring Dominical

Have a nice breakfast at the hotel. Dominical is a beach-front town in Bahía Ballena de Osa District in the province of Puntarenas in Costa Rica. It is well known for large, year-round waves and is popular among surfers in Costa Rica. The town began as a small fishing village but has since grown into a tourist attraction, most notably for surfers.

Day 12Exploring Dominical

Have breakfast at the hotel. There’s a lot more to this quirky beach town and the surrounding stretch of coastline called the Costa Ballena than just surf. What people love most about this region of Costa Rica, is the combination of jungle-filled mountains and ocean. The nearby hills are a playground for wildlife and hiking enthusiasts, and the nearly deserted beaches are the perfect escape for those looking to relax and unwind.

Day 13 Self-drive to San Jose

Have breakfast at the hotel. Spent your las moments in Dominical Beach.
Today you will be driving back to San Jose.

Day 14Self-Drive to Airport.

Have a nice breakfast at the hotel. Today you are going to go back to the airport, you can leave your car there. We hope you had a fun trip in Costa Rica and learned a lot about nature.
